Day 12: Sophie

Oh, look who is wearing all black! AGAIN! What a shocker!

I just ran out to get a coffee and I almost asked the coffee-cart man to take my pic, but I didn't. And then I thought about asking someone on the street to take my pic, but I figured if they are on their way to work at 7am, they probably have a presentation to work on or a really important Excel spreadsheet to finish or a department meeting to get to... so I didn't want to bother them. Instead I got my coffee and came home and did my regular ole inside-my-apartment-wearing-all-black-standing-next-to-my-PB-furniture-camera-timer-photo shoot as usual. And to make matters worse, I took a lot of pics!

At least I have yet to wear the dreaded flops this week. If I remember correctly, Kendi said she did not select enough shoes in her last Remix, and she suggested we all include a good amount of shoes... oh, and did Vivianne listen? No, she chose like 88 black dresses instead. On another note, I was thinking of naming my black dresses. I have 11 of them, and since I love them like ... well, a lot... I think I should name them.

Today's dress is short and kinda sassy, but still a classic silhouette. Her name will be...

SOPHIE.

Ok, Sohie and I are going to work now.

Day 11: I am sorry...

This week I am going to make an effort to limit my self to wearing those dang flops only twice. K? AND, I am going to try and get my pic taken OUTSIDE... somehow... at least once or twice as well. I do however, have to wear the flops to walk to work in- but then, I change into these before I get into the office. Or sometimes at my desk. Oh you don't care, do you?

I am ahead of schedule today because I did NOT blow dry my hair. Leaving me time for Monday morning blog fun! The temps in NYC are creeping upward towards 1000, with humidity also at 1000%, which means that I CANNOT create more heat inside my apartment with things like blow dryers and flat irons. So, that means my hair SUCKS and my options are limited to: a.) ponytail, or this new "I am 30, but I look like an 11-year old" option b.) pigtails.

I'm sorry!... Please keep coming back to my blog! Please follow me and tell your friends to follow me! I promise to give you:
Better shoes! Better hair! Better pics not of the inside of my apartment next to my husband's drum cabinet...

Happy Monday everybody!!

30 for 30: Day 3 Pleat Pants

I liked this outfit less and less as the day went on. Just felt boring. Next time I wear these pants, I will style them another way. Any suggestions? I am a bit limited you know...

The shoes got their own pic because I love them. But every time I wear them my feet die a little bit.

RIP feet.

30 for 30- Remix Items!

Sometimes people ask me for style suggestions. Maybe its because I'm a clothing designer. Maybe its because I wear all black, so my clothes always "magically" go together and they think I have good style. Maybe its because I write a blog about fashion and they think I know stuff. I like to give people advice about what they wear. I like to be helpful. Sometimes they listen. Not usually.
Many times, my advice is to clean out your closet, once or twice per year (Spring and Fall) and try on everything - making outfits- so you know what fits, what goes together, and what you still like! (I can go into more detail about this process another time.) I even suggest taking pics of your outfits, so getting ready in the morning is a breeze. I did this last Fall, and not only was it super fun, but it helped me style my wardrobe in ways I hadn't previously though to do. Now- Summer. I am struggling with my Summer clothes, as you know. So, yesterday, I came across a fabulous way to challenge my Summer styling skills, and save some $$. Check out Kendi Everyday, and follow her immediately. Please. After you follow me. Please.

SO, here are the rules of the 30-for-30 Challenge!
1. First rule of 30 for 30 challenge, don't talk about the 30 for 30 challenge.
2. Pick out 30 items (shoes included) and list or take a picture of the items and post on your blog. (other accessories are not included- belts, jewelry, watches, etc.)
3. Only wear the selected 30 items for the next 30 days- "remixing" them in new and awesome ways, making fabulous outfits.
4. No shopping for 30 days. This was Kendi's rule, which many of the other participants have also adopted. However since I am currently already on a shopping freeze, I am giving up eating lunch out during the week. Instead I will come home, or eat at work.
5. Spread the love to the other re-mixers. And invite others on your blog to join in as well.

So, here are my 30 "Remix" items. I know what you're thinking, they are all black and white. (Duh. Its me!) But as you can see, I have SOME color in my accessories. So you will not die of boredom for the next 30 days.
(I felt like I was taking a pic of my kids here) 5 Dresses
4 Tops
2 Cardigans
2 Skirts, 1 long short, 1 cropped pant, 1 pari of jeans
6 Tanks (layering)
4 Tees
4 Shoes
see? Color!

What do you think!?
If you want to participate in your own 30 for 30, let me know!!
Also, please know that I will still find the time to post pics of people with terrible and offensive style over this next month. So if you don't want to see pictures of ONLY me. So, don't worry. There will still be pics of horrible looking people on this blog, you know I can't help myself.

Man-day

I am sure you've all been missing Man-day Monday, right? Well I have not forgotten about it, I simply have not seen any hot and super stylish men to snap shots of! WHERE ARE YOU!? I hope you are hiding in the fitting rooms at Bloomingdale's buying your amazing new summer wardrobe or something, because you are not out on the streets looking awesome.

Men, (or ladies who buy clothes for their men), if you're looking for inspiration for how to dress in the heat of the summer months and still be really gorgeous and not all sweaty and boring in a giant tank top from Old Navy- check out mensflair.com.

Below are pics from mensflair. These are great pieces that are stylish and fashion forward - bringing sophistication to any guy's summer wardrobe.

A pocket square is great for any season. It can work in addition to, or in place of a tie to add a touch of color and texture to a suit.

This shade of blue is so HOT this Spring and Summer. If you're not already wearing it, you should start now. I don't blame you if you want to skip the blue shoes though... Also go get some aviators. (True aviator sunglasses have the bar across the top of the bridge of your nose.)

I know, I know... you couldn't possible wear one of these... the point is to be INSPIRED... maybe not a neckerchief... couldn't you see yourself in a summer scarf though?

Love these, super classy, and they look great with casual or more dressed up attire.

These are great shoes. Timeless.

I don't care if you (guys) drink Naty Lite beer and have a bottle opener on your key chain. If you have elements of sophistication in clothing, you'll get major points with ladies. Good shoes are MAJOR POINTS.

Now, I since I know we can't all afford to wear Gucci, here are some affordable alternatives.

Monday Man-day

Its Monday! Boo. But yay that I have good pics of stylish men for you! You're welcome. Man-day is a perfect reason for you to Follow my blog, now, don't you think? Yes I do.

Don't know where he's headed but I like his red shoes and his hat! Love a bold look like this, don't you?

I am pretty sure he woke up this morning and thought he was in Miami. Like? No like? PS his shorts are sheer.

What is this guy looking at? I don't know but its the perfect chance for me to get a close up, right? Thanks Puma guy. He also has on an uber cool Man-bag. Clearly, I am a fan. What do you all think of this look?

Happy Monday everybody, from me and the Men!

Saturday

This is how I do color

I don't wear color. I only wear black. HH only wears black. We share a closet, a compact, but very well organized sea of black fabric- in only slightly varied shades, of course. Its difficult to decipher where his clothes end and mine begin. But, we manage. Most of the time. I told you all how I came to give him the name HH (Howard Hughes) and it is because he is so flexible and laid-back... ;) he he. Well, one time I used one of his multi-level pant hangers without telling him... (you know the kind I'm talking about? With 3 or 4 parallel bars across?) and I hung a pair of black dress pants on it. I rarely wore them and forgot about them for several months. HH put them on the other day by mistake. He freaked out for about 3 minutes, thinking he'd suddenly gained 10 lbs, until he realized that they were mine. I had to try them on IMMEDIATELY so that we were sure they were mine, and then IMMEDIATELY put them on MY OWN hanger on MY OWN side of the closet. It really is better this way- my things separate. Otherwise, I would have had to change his nickname. I love that guy.

Back to the POINT. Wearing black. My wardrobe is all black, black/white, black/grey, and a little teeny bit of navy. I dress like this because when I wear all black I feel most like ME. If I were to wear pink, or some floral print, I would feel weird. I would be in a bad mood, most likely. Its not worth it, clothes are supposed to make you happy. Here is my attempt at color since it IS Spring...

PS- I am pretty sure, the only day of the week I will be able to get a pic of my whole outfit for you all is Sunday. HH is just not into it. I took this my own self and I made a collage. Hope you like.

Flashback to Kindergarten

Why didn't I love these shoes back then? Why? I don't remember. But I love them now. And I especially love them paired with knee socks. I wore this combo to work yesterday- It made me feel so youthful. I was surprised at the ...looks I got walking down the street. Even in the Garment district to NYC. Don't you think that is weird? I wasn't in some super crazy outfit or anything.... well, whatever. I can't wait to wear this again, but I have to pace myself or I'll wear it out. PS, the socks are navy. I love to wear navy with black. When done correctly, I think this looks awesome- so forward. When its not done carefully, it is obviously Barf City, and just looks like you got dressed in the dark.

I don't mean for all the pics on this blog to be of my feet. Tomorrow I'm going out to try and snap some shots of people with GOOD style. I do feel, though, that it is more fun to talk about those with hideous attire...and there are more of them, unfortunately. Well, we'll see what I find.
